In this guide, I will show you how to register working from home or being sick in MyDesk. This feature can be incredibly useful as it not only frees up your desk space, but also updates your Outlook calendar so your colleagues can see where you are.

Step 1: Choose the right date #

To register that you work from home, first select the date on which this applies. For example, if you know that you work from home on January 30, click this date in MyDesk.

Step 2: Set the status of your absence #

Once you have selected the date, you can for example indicate that you are “out of office”. Here you get several different types of registrations to choose from. In my case, I have a type called “Working elsewhere”. You can customize these types based on what works best for your workplace.

Step 3: Confirm your registration #

Once you have selected the relevant type, click on it to confirm your registration. The day will now be marked as “Working elsewhere” and the same information will automatically be saved in your Outlook calendar.

Step 4: Check your Outlook calendar #

The great thing about this feature is that your colleagues don’t have to search for you in MyDesk. They can simply check your Outlook calendar to see that you are working from home or are sick. This makes it easier for them to schedule meetings and collaborate with you.

Step 5: Booking desk space #

The same applies if you book a desk space. In your Outlook calendar, it will also show as an all-day booking. However, it’s important to note that this does not mean that you will be visible as booked all day. It’s just information so that your colleagues can still book you for meetings and other activities.
