Fixed office space is a traditional method of workspace allocation that involves assigning a specific workstation, desk or office to a single employee. In this model, employees have a permanent workspace that they use every day, and they typically personalize it with personal belongings, photos or other items. Fixed seats are often used in organizations with many employees and limited office space.

Permanent seats can have some benefits, such as fostering a sense of belonging and giving employees a sense of ownership over their workplace. But it can also have some downsides. For example, if employees sit close to colleagues who can be distracting or disruptive, it can affect their productivity and job satisfaction. Furthermore, if employees have a long commute or need to work remotely, their permanent workspace may be empty, resulting in wasted office space.

As an alternative to fixed seats, some organizations opt for activity-based work environments that allow employees to choose their workplace based on their specific tasks and activities. This approach gives employees more flexibility and autonomy and can also reduce real estate costs by optimizing the use of office space.

When employees are assigned a specific space within the office, floor plans can be organized by seat number or section on each floor. Fixed spaces are a popular way in which offices construct the layout, and are usually created by the office manager or head of each department. Employees can have the option to personalize and decorate their space as desired.
