MyDesk is a new application established with the intention of creating more freedom and job satisfaction for employees. The idea came about in 2020 from observations of COVID’s influence on larger companies. The three founders saw a clear need for a new system for the administration of work spaces. There was a potential for disruption in the way that companies organize their work structures. A one-size-fits-all solution where everyone works in the same manner is no longer optimal. It is the time for implementing a system that takes these new realities into account: A system for the administration of flexible work spaces.

The prerequisites and needs of the individual

The shift to remote work spaces has been the case for thousands of Danes. During this process, many have experienced that they have been doing good work from home. Thus, companies might favourably continue to utilize this way of working. The employees who thrive with office work may return to their old routines. But with the MyDesk system, the company can save money in terms of the number of fixed office spaces, canteen patrons, parking, cleaning, etc. Each employee checks in through the app on their phone and announces where they are doing their work from. They can also say what they need in terms of space, quiet surroundings, group zones, or food in the canteen for instance.

New daily life without fixed spaces

Farseeing companies such as Sentia and Codan have taken on MyDesk positively and implemented the system with great success for their hundreds of employees. ”We have bought the tool in order to succeed in having a new daily life without fixed spaces in the long term,” proclaims CEO of Codan Christian Baltzer for FinansWatch. He sees great potential in the improved flexibility: “We believe that the flexibility provides a greater opportunity for the exchange of knowledge and cooperation across the organization.” Financial Director of Sentia Claus Kuno views the app as an opportunity for optimizing the work environment: ”We wish to create a good work environment across our offices so that our employees can do their work regardless of location. With MyDesk we can ensure that a space is reserved for everyone in the offices and that no one shows up in vain.”

The dynamic office of the future

The three founders have more than 50 years of experience combined within the IT and business world. Michael Ries is the former CEO of software company OPTIWARE, which he sold to American company Aptean in 2019 after 18 years. Following this, he joined Jesper Bo Larsen and Henrik Jøhnk Kristensen who both have over ten years of experience in developing software for Microsoft’s platforms. The trio believe that their application is the answer to the modern company’s switch to new realities with flexible work spaces, and they look forward to many new partnerships that will be announced in the latter half of 2021. Modern companies must structure their work with regard to the prerequisites and needs of the individual in order to gain improved satisfaction and effort. MyDesk is the tool for administration of the dynamic office of the future.
